Giant Porites from remote reefs

We were absolutely delighted to see this submission from a very unexplored and understudied area: Myanmar

Estimated to be between 5 and 10 meters in diameter, this giant coral colony was found in a remote reef area off Myanmar 🪸.
It’s truly fascinating to think about how many giant corals might still be waiting to be discovered in the ocean. Myanmar’s reefs remain relatively untouched by tourism so far, but they still face the same challenges as the rest of the world from climate change and other indirect pressures.
As one of the limitations of citizen science project its the geographical bias toward busier areas, receiving this entry is particularly important in expanding the reach of the project.

Thanks @thesmilingseahorse and @global_reef  for their support!
