In our ongoing mission to understand coral resilience, researchers from Enea (Agenzia nazionale per le nuove tecnologie, l’energia e lo sviluppo economico sostenibile) and CNR (Consiglio Nazionale delle ricerche) have joined Map the Giants in the Maldives to collect in-situ data and samples, studying coralsโ€™ physiological responses โ€” respiration, photosynthesis, and calcification. We have also been collecting coral cores to better understand coral biomineralization and reconstruct past bleaching events.

The research was conducted under research permit NRP 2026/3
