Galaxea-astrata_Indonesia

A very large Galaxea

This huge 🪸 𝘎𝘢𝘭𝘢𝘹𝘦𝘢 𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘢 was reported by Ocean Gardener Vincent Chalias and his team in December 2024  from Indonesia 🇮🇩. The colony measures an astounding 143m in perimeter and stretches from 4m of depth to 14m of depth for a maximum horizontal length of 71m 😮. Given its complex growth form and its extension, it creates a perfect habitat for numerous other organisms that find shelter amongst its structures 🐠🦀.
What an incredible discovery from our Indonesian supporters. Thanks for sharing with the entire marine community the wonders of our ocean.

Thank you Ocean Gardener for your valuable contributions to Map the Giants and to the conservation of coral reefs in general!
